Government Primary School Shisham Jhari Near Ganges River

Here is another school we went to to distribute new uniforms, shoes, socks, and all of their scholastic necessities. This was made possible thanks to the generosity of some of my fellow yoga students at Usha Devi's yoga center in Rishikesh (Omkarananda Patanjala Yoga Kendre). I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You can write to me at: info@rishikeshrelief.org

Mission accomplished! A new kitchen for Mother Miracle! Shisham Jhari, Rishikesh January 2015

Mother Miracle is a nonprofit organisation operating in the impoverished community of Shisham Jhari, Rishikesh, India. They are actively improving the quality of life for children, women, youth, and families living in this poor neighbourhood. They provide free schooling for the children, they have recently created a women’s empowerment program, and they provide vocational training, such as computer programming, for the young people of this community. We have decided to help them rebuild their kitchen because I have seen with my own eyes how much importance Mother Miracle gives to providing a nutritious lunch every day (six days a week) for all of the children and staff at the school – that’s a daily lunch for over 200 people. For most of the children, this is the only decent meal they will get all day and Mother Miracle allows them to eat all they want. I have visited the school many times and, believe me, the kitchen was not at all suitable for the preparation of such an immense amount of food. The women working in the kitchen are all from the poor community of Rishikesh. The kitchen was outside, which made it very difficult to work during the monsoon season and the cold, winter months. Besides creating a proper kitchen so the women can cook for the children, Mother Miracle’s plan is to teach the women how to bake breads and cakes to sell to the local hotels and restaurants that cater to foreigners. In this way, these poor, uneducated women can make some money for themselves besides raising their self-esteem. In these photographs, you can see how the kitchen was before and how it is now. This dream was realised thanks to the generosity of a lot of Italian people, in particolare from Turin and Milan. Allow us to thank some sponsors: Radio Monte Carlo - Italy, Mixto - Torino, Provamel, Azienda Vinicola Verga, Furbatto. We would also like to thank some companies that supplied merchandise during the fund-raiser: Vanni, Morcare, Zoom Torino, Casa Vinicola Verga, and Time Records. A special thanks to photographer Erika Banchio, The Trend Set, Cultural Project and Harley & Muscle. You can write to me at: info@rishikeshrelief.org

Mohan Chatti Public School Laxman Jhula - Rishikesh Dec. 15, 2014

This is a school just outside of Rishikesh. It is in the mountains and as you can see by the photographs, it was hit really hard by last summer's floods. The children come from small villages, some very far away. We gave 120 sweaters to the most needy and thanks to my friend Villa Yang, we gave the children some nice pens.
